Phycella ignea
(Syn.: Phycela bicolor)
is an autumn/winter/spring growing species. Dormant in summer.
- Put seeds in pure Water at 15° C degrees, for 72 hours or until germination.
- Once seedlings have germinated, sow them in a soil mix of 60% well-decomposed leaf mold and 40% grit. Lightly cover seeds with sand.
- Drainage: High.
- Exposure: Full sun.
- Temperature: Tolerant to light frosts.
- Water: Minimum watering. Once a week during growing season. Plants obtained from seed, should complete the first growing cycle in approximately 3 months. Watering should start again in early autumn.
As most bulbous species, Phycella ignea seeds take 3-4 years to become flowering plants.
